Coffee Bar & Visitor Welcome Volunteer

Lancashire Heritage (2018) CIC

Becconsall Living Museum & Heritage Park is looking for friendly volunteers to welcome visitors and help us run our Welcome Centre coffee bar, at weekends and during special events. This is a flexible role where you can give as much or as little time as you wish.

Becconsall is a new, not for profit living museum and heritage park on a 20 acre Biological Heritage Site in Hesketh Bank, between Southport and Preston. We celebrate Lancashire’s industrial, social and craft heritage, promoting learning, skills and wellbeing for visitors of all ages.

This is a flexible role where you can give as much or as little time as you wish.

Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do; the more the merrier. Whether your interest is in history, rural crafts, industrial heritage, nature, gardening or simply being part of a welcoming team, we’d love you to get involved.

This role combines simple coffee bar tasks within our Welcome Centre and signposting visitors around the park.

You may be:

• Welcoming visitors as they arrive and offering a friendly first point of contact.

• Serving hot and cold drinks, and light refreshments from the coffee bar.

• Handling small cash and card payments using our till or payment device.

• Keeping the serving area tidy, wiping tables and restocking supplies.

• Chatting with visitors and answering basic questions about Becconsall, today’s activities and facilities.

• Signposting visitors to guided tours, events, talks, nature trails and other points of interest around the site.

• Sharing information about accessibility, toilets, seating areas and routes around the park.

• Supporting the Welcome Centre team during busy periods.

• Helping with simple set up and pack down before and after opening hours for events

Tasks can be matched to your confidence and experience, and you’ll always have someone nearby to support you.

What skills do I need?

You don’t need any experience; full guidance will be given. It’s more important that you:

• Enjoy meeting and chatting with people from different backgrounds.

• Are friendly, patient and approachable.

• Can communicate clearly and listen to visitor questions.

• Are comfortable handling small amounts of money and basic card transactions.

• Are happy to work as part of a team and follow agreed procedures.

• Are able to stand for periods during your shift (we can discuss adjustments if needed).
