Community Cafe & Kitchen Volunteer

Hope Street

A positive mindset is required for this role as customers not only come in for food, but to also access our mental health services which is commissioned by Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS to prevent mental health crisis, aid recovery and sustain overall well-being.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, so all purchases made in the cafe go back in to provide free services and overheads; however,  if a person works beyond 4-hours, they are entitled to a home-made soup, crusty roll and instant coffee, tea, tap water or cordial. Any other foods from the menu, cans, bottles and barista drinks must be paid for. To ensure this is a fair process, the CEO and any family who visit the hub are also expected to follow the same process. However, if there is any surplus, volunteers will receive first offer before it is disposed of.

The person may sometimes be expected to run the kitchen, so they must be trustworthy, honest and reliable.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about community and cooking to work in our busy community cafe and hub, which is open 6-days’ and 3-nights’ a week.

The person needs to be able to work in a small space under pressure with 2 adults; one of whom will be washing up and another who will be making barista drinks.

The cafe becomes busy and we have to work at a quick pace whilst keeping in line with food safety standards; therefore, the ideal candidate should be able to work under pressure alongside the CEO and other volunteers to ensure food goes out to customers hot and in a timely manner.
