Schoolreaders
Do you have an hour or two to spare each week? Could you help primary age children to develop a love of books and reading?
Schoolreaders volunteers are matched with a primary school that is local to them, which they visit weekly, listening to children read individually and helping to develop their reading and comprehension skills as well as helping the children to engage with books and hopefully go on to be confident and enthusiastic readers, which will have a positive impact on them as they progress through the school system and into adult life. Many of the Headteachers in our partner schools say that the relationship that the children have with their reading volunteer has a significant impact on boosting children's confidence and reading skills.
(Current location: Skelmersdale)
You do not need an specific skills or prior experience to be a Schoolreaders volunteer, just be over 18, have good written and spoken English and be able to commit to helping children read weekly for at least a year (although holidays and appointments can be taken during this time). Our volunteers have a regular session each week, that is in a morning or afternoon that is convenient to them.
