Volunteer Bike Mechanic

The Bike Works

The Bike Works is a community project based in Skelmersdale. We refurbish bikes and escooters back into re-usable low cost transport.

We are looking for Volunteers to help us to run our community bike shop. There is always plenty to do. Learning to repair bikes and escooters back into to our community here in Skelmersdale and across Lancs. The role is quite varied as you will be working in a busy workshop where you could also be front of house, serving customers, doing repairs, keeping the bike shop floor tidy and fresh, or organising stock behind the scenes.

This is a great way to gain experience, make new friends, and help people. The shop is open 6 days a week, so whatever time you can give would be very much appreciated, although ideally you would want to commit to a minimum of two days per week.

Sometimes we can reimburse your reasonable local travel expenses if you have travelled from outside the area, and there is always free tea, coffee and refreshments.

So, if you are looking for a new career in the industry and have a serious interest in bikes or escooters then train with us as a volunteer. We also will be able to provide a reference to prospective employers.

What skills do I need?

Previous bike or retail experience would be great, but it's not at all essential as we'll give you all the training you need. But if you can use your own initiative and work as part of a team to help out. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and have a practical nature then why not give the Bike Works a try. Come and give it a go and make a real difference in our community.
