Volunteer Driver

Birchwood

Are you looking for experience or would like to gain knowledge of working in Birchwood Centre?

Do you have a Full Driving Licence and can be flexible anytime during the day?

Could you help our Team by driving one of our vans, and help with collection of food donations from our suppliers to supply our free community shops and café.

You will need to have a current Full Driving Licence

For this role you need to be a current full driving licence, be able to lift food in and out of the vans, be a good communicator and relationship builder with our supplier food businesses and also the wider Birchwood team of staff and volunteers.

There will be opportunities to gain knowledge and support our services whilst accessing a range of additional training opportunities within Birchwood Centre


What skills do I need?

What will I be doing? To support the Birchwood Centre by:

• Driving our van in the collection of food from our suppliers and delivering food to our inclusion shops and cafes.

• Being a visible and friendly point of contact for external business’ as well for Birchwood staff and other Volunteers

• To ensure communication with the external business’ are well received

• To provide practical support to the Social Inclusion Team, when using the van

• To actively promote the services of Birchwood Centre


When can I volunteer? Volunteer van driver can be flexible.

We currently do food pick-ups during the morning plus other jobs during the day.

The time commitment is flexible ideally to a minimum of 2 sessions per week.

Is this an opportunity for me? This opportunity would suit you if you are:

• Someone who is a confident driver

• Seeking experience in being a van driver and helping with lifting food in and out of the van

• Friendly, reliable and have an approachable manner

• To be polite and welcoming especially to business’ we collect food from

• Are comfortable in taking the initiative to approach people and offer assistance

• Can communicate effectively with team members and follow instructions


What will I get from volunteering?

• Meeting and working with external business’ and the wider Birchwood team

• Helping out Birchwood Centre as a first point of contact for external businesses’ who donate to us

• Help with collecting food and seeing the positive impact our project is having on the wider community
